The Managerial Team

This team performs all the day-to-day activities required to facilitate and sustain the functioning of the different project teams.  It consists of six sub-teams, and a group of one member from each of the sub-teams, the Steering Committee.



Steering Committee

The committee contains six team representatives, one from each of the following managerial sub-teams. The committee’s main aim will be to coordinate among the managerial teams themselves, and also ensure smooth functioning of the over-all NSS framework.

The following are the details of each of the Managerial Sub-teams:

1.     Documentation and Collaboration:

The Documentation and Collaboration sub-team will be in charge of ensuring documentation of the work of NSS. They will maintain records and the NSS membership database, and also look out for possibilities of collaboration between different projects under NSS.

Students working in this sub-team will:

Ø  Collect and archive frequent reports/documents from all project teams.
Ø  Maintain a record of all the projects currently running and details regarding participation of all NSS members
Ø  Maintain an archive of past NSS projects and members, to facilitate transfer of knowledge and information
Ø  Deliver details of project progress to the Web Operations team, to be published on the NSS web-portal
Ø  Suggest and facilitate possibilities of synergy between projects
Ø  Periodically pass on details of project proposals and project reports to the Advisory Committee

2.     Web Operations, Design and Publicity

This sub-team will comprise of a mix of students with skills in Web Operations and Design/Publicity. They will be in charge of the upkeep of the NSS web-portal and creating all the media and publicity content for NSS, from videos to posters.

Students working in this sub-team will:

Web Operations
Ø  Manage and host the NSS web-portal, keeping it up-to-date with details of ongoing projects (collected from the Documentation and Collaboration Team)
Ø  Create and maintain an online interface for communication and feedback within NSS
Ø  Maintain an online database of all members
Ø  Create or upload forms, files and other content as and when required (eg. Project proposal application form)

Design/Publicity
Ø  Clearly communicate the new NSS framework to all the students of IITM community
Ø  Publicize NSS activities/events and encourage participation from all students on campus
Ø  Design posters, presentations, videos and other media to make sure NSS has a positive and purposeful image in the campus

3.     Finance and Accounting

The Finance and Accounting sub-team will be in charge of all the monetary aspects of NSS, and also arrange for funding for projects from the appropriate channel.

Students working in this sub-team will:

Ø  Maintain accounts and manage the finance of NSS
Ø  Facilitate timely release of funds (sanctioned by the Advisory Committee) to the project reams.
Ø  Collect and review bills and manage refunds of Project Teams
Ø  Arrange for sponsorship from other channels based on the need of the project taken up

4.     Research and Statistics

The Research and Statistics sub-team will provide and analyse data of the real world to constantly reassess the impact of projects and keep them in line with the needs of the society.

Students working in this sub-team will:
Ø  Constantly update the mission statement for various projects by relevant statistics in order to guide all the initiatives towards greater impact and success. Eg Providing Statistical and usage information about the End Users of a particular project and helping the Project Team understand needs and demands of these End Users.
Ø  Bring to light specific problems faced by the society backed with relevant statistical information giving details on the magnitude and the root cause of the Problem. These Problems would be further discussed during Intra-NSS Competitions and Ideation Session for New Projects
Ø  Constantly reassess the needs of the society in areas relevant to NSS’ activity and convey the insights to the relevant project teams

5.     Skill Building and Training

This sub-team would be entrusted with the responsibility of training and facilitating guidance to Project Team members in various skills required for successful completion of the chosen project.

Students working in this sub-team will:


Ø  Get in touch with experienced and skilled persons within the student community or professionals outside to organize Introduction and Training Sessions
Ø  Refer the records with the Documentation and Collaboration team to find such individuals
Ø  Arrange for venue and facilities required to conduct these workshops.
Ø  Organize workshops to build the community skills of NSS volunteers (eg. Disaster management workshop, First aid training, etc.)

6.     Event Management

This sub-team will be in charge of the conducting all the events and programs of NSS, and will also conduct a set of events (lectures, workshops, tours, etc) for NSS volunteers to help sensitize them to social issues.

Students working in this sub-team will:
Ø  Be in charge of conducting the various events of NSS through the year, which include the Inauguration, the Valedictory Ceremony and DOS Collection
Ø  Conduct lectures, awareness programs and tours/visits to sensitize volunteers about social issues
Ø  Schedule project review dates
Ø  Conduct intra-NSS competitions*and Ideation Sessions** to help volunteers to think about social issues
Ø  Publish regular updates on the various NSS Competitions through NSS Blog as well as publish an Idea Book enlisting all the ideas proposed by the volunteers
